The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the premier medical entrance examination in India for students aspiring to pursue undergraduate medical courses. Conducted at the national level, NEET serves as the single entrance examination for admission into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other medical-related programs offered by government and private medical institutions across the country.

NEET has replaced multiple state and institutional level medical entrance exams, creating a uniform and transparent admission process for medical aspirants throughout India. Admission to medical colleges is based primarily on a candidate’s NEET score, rank, and eligibility criteria prescribed by the authorities.

Every year, lakhs of students appear for the examination, making it one of the most competitive entrance tests in the country.

NEET Examination Overview

NEET is designed to evaluate a student’s understanding of subjects taught at the Class 11 and Class 12 levels. The examination tests the candidate’s knowledge in the following subjects:

  • Physics

  • Chemistry

  • Biology (Botany and Zoology)

The exam is conducted in an offline (pen-and-paper) mode and consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Candidates are required to select the correct answer from the given options.

The duration of the examination is three hours, and it assesses the student’s conceptual clarity, analytical ability, and application of scientific knowledge.

Eligibility for NEET

Students who wish to appear for NEET must meet certain eligibility conditions, including:

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have completed or be appearing for Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects from a recognized board.
